Forms tab: transfer the figures

The Forms tab maps your amounts to the lines of the forms the tax office expects. It is step 2 Transfer on the Overview.

In short:

  • Every amount is shown as you enter it, without colour. The loss lines of Anlage KAP (lines 22 and 23) have no minus sign; if line 19 is a loss overall, it shows a minus sign, and the copy icon copies it too.
  • The copy icon next to an amount copies it in ELSTER format.
  • Click a line to see what the amount is made of; click a part to see the events behind it.
  • The tax office calculates the tax from these lines itself.

If the header says "Incomplete", sales are missing from these lines. Resolve that first in step 1 Review – see Sales without a purchase.

Copy an amount

Next to each amount on Anlage KAP, KAP-INV and SO is a copy icon. It copies the value the way you enter it in ELSTER: decimal comma, no € sign, no thousands separator (e.g. 9664,91). It then briefly shows Copied. If copying fails, select the amount and copy it by hand.

What is behind a line

A click on a line opens what the amount is made of, for example share gains and fund income. A line of a single part only says what it is, without repeating the amount. Lines 20 to 23 of Anlage KAP start with of which:, because they are parts of lines 18 and 19.

A click on a part opens a side sheet on the right (from the bottom on phones) with the tax events behind it – security, date, action and euro amount. From there Related bookings in Transactions (incl. buys) opens the filtered table and Open in the audit trail the derivation of each event. Back returns you to the sheet.

The sections

  • Anlage KAP — interest, dividends, gains and losses on shares, results from derivatives and writer premiums, plus creditable foreign withholding tax. Expand line 41 for a table per country with Withheld, Creditable and Excess; click a country to see its securities, and a security to see its bookings. See Foreign withholding tax.
  • Dividends of German shares — only if you have any: dividend and tax withheld per security, whether they are settled or belong in line 18, and the values for lines 6, 7, 37 and 38 in case you declare them for church tax or the Günstigerprüfung. See Dividends of German shares.
  • Anlage KAP-INV — your fund and ETF income, each split by fund kind: distributions (lines 4–8), Vorabpauschalen (lines 9–13), and gains and losses on disposal (lines 14, 17, 20, 23, 26). The Vorabpauschale appears here once you have recorded it under Adjustments. The amounts are gross, before Teilfreistellung — the tax office applies it itself, based on the line; the Overview lists it as a separate Partial exemption item. A loss on disposal carries a minus sign in the same line and is entered that way — unlike the loss lines of Anlage KAP. If you had no fund income that year, the section says you do not need Anlage KAP-INV.
  • Currency gains — only if you have any: per foreign currency the classification as interest-bearing (§ 20 EStG, included in lines 19/22 of Anlage KAP) or non-interest-bearing (§ 23 EStG, included in Anlage SO), which you can change here, and both results; the one not applied is greyed out, with an (i) saying what the result would be under the other rule. Why capi.tax chose the classification and any debt at year end are under Classification per currency. See Currency gains.
  • Anlage SO – private disposals (§ 23 EStG) — only if you have any: the currency result from non-interest-bearing balances and gold securities such as Xetra-Gold together, the total result, the value after the exemption limit if it differs (only valid if you have no other private disposals, such as crypto or other accounts), for 2024 and 2025 the line and code of Anlage SO right on the amount, and every sale with purchase and sale date and the one-year period. The total result goes on Anlage SO before the exemption limit; the sales list is the separate statement. See Xetra-Gold & gold ETCs.

Below the lines is the one note you need when entering them. The explanations open with More on Anlage KAP (or More on Anlage KAP-INV, More on Anlage SO). There you also see which fund kind capi.tax used for each symbol — it decides the line.

Funds with an unknown fund type

A fund whose fund type capi.tax does not know is treated provisionally as an other investment fund (no partial exemption) and shown under Review as an assumption. Its income then goes on Anlage KAP-INV in the lines for other investment funds. Looks right confirms the assumption; Tax category changes it, for example to equity fund (30 %). How to find the fund type: Funds & Teilfreistellung.

The Tastytrade export has no security type. capi.tax therefore lists, in one notice "Fund kind not detectable", the share symbols that are not on the list of known ETFs; if one of them is a fund, you assign it under Adjustments yourself.

Good to know

As a rule you still file Anlage KAP with a pure fund portfolio — not because of the Sparer-Pauschbetrag, which the Finanzamt grants automatically, but for the Günstigerprüfung application (line 4), church tax, the foreign-tax credit (line 41, fund distributions included) and allowance already used at German banks.

A loss carryforward from an earlier year that you recorded under Adjustments is not deducted from the form values: it only lowers the Tax as calculated. The tax office applies the determined carryforward itself; you transfer the lines as they are.

capi.tax does not output line 17 (saver's allowance already used at German banks), because it does not know that amount. If you fill in lines from 18 on, enter the amount from your bank certificates there, otherwise 0 – see Anlage KAP, KAP-INV & SO.

There is no direct hand-over to ELSTER; you enter the figures yourself.
