Exporting your report

capi.tax stores nothing. Close the tab and your results are gone — there is no recovery, because there is nothing to recover. So export your report before you leave the page. The button sits at the top of the results screen.

Four formats

All four contain the same figures; they differ only in what they are made for.

  • PDF — the report to read, print, and hand on. The format you send your tax advisor or file with your records.
  • Excel (.xlsx) — one worksheet per section, with a leading info sheet carrying broker, tax year, and generation date. Amounts and rates are real numbers, not text, so you can sort, filter, and sum straight away. The right format if you want to check the maths yourself.
  • CSV — the same sections as a neutral text file, one block per section, in UTF-8. Meant for further processing in another program.
  • JSON — the result structure in machine-readable form, for your own analysis or scripts.

There is also a Print action that prints the results page directly or saves it as a PDF.

What the report contains

Every export contains the same sections, in this order:

  1. Summary — gross result, taxable amount, estimated tax.
  2. KAP figures — the amounts for the lines of Anlage KAP and KAP-INV.
  3. Loss offset pots — how gains and losses developed within the separate pots.
  4. Withholding tax — creditable foreign tax, broken down by country.
  5. Categories — the result per tax category, with Teilfreistellung and taxable share.
  6. Tax events — every tax-relevant transaction individually.
  7. FIFO matches — which sale was calculated against which purchase, with dates and holding period.

The last two sections are the actual evidence: they make every figure in the report traceable down to the individual row of your broker export. That is exactly what a tax advisor — or, if questions arise, the tax office — needs.

Which format for whom

  • For your tax advisor: the PDF, plus the Excel file in case there are questions about individual trades.
  • For your own records: the PDF. Keep it together with the original export from your broker.
  • To check and filter yourself: Excel.
  • For another program: CSV or JSON.

For the tax return itself, you transfer the values from the KAP figures section into Anlage KAP or KAP-INV. There is no direct hand-off to ELSTER.

Good to know

  • The export is generated in your browser and saved locally. Nothing leaves your computer here either.
  • The report contains your trades in plain text. Treat the file like your broker statement.
  • If you calculated with sample data, the report carries a visible demo marker — so an example never ends up in a tax return by accident.
  • If processing notices are still open, or a sale sits unmatched in the audit trail, you are exporting an incomplete state. Resolve that first.
